The Granton Requiem

The Granton Requiem

The Zoo Museum Warehouse
On a working class estate
The Guard there knows me well enough
To smile raising the gate

A hundred thousand wooden cubes
Of hides and teeth and bones
Like the last shot in chapter one
Of Indiana Jones

A curious creature pickle
Requiem-like in formaldehyde
Suspended in it’s jar
I very nearly cried

Asymmetrically limbed
When production line created
Designed by mere whim
It was swiftly liquidated

Born in a clumsy body
Neither skilled in fight or flight
I left work for bed and cocoa
I thought about it through the night
